Nana's Hoose Aberdeen's First Immersive Social Care Training

Why Immersive Training Matters

Research consistently shows that experiential and immersive learning can improve knowledge retention, engagement, and empathy. Nana's Hoose provides a safe and supportive environment where professionals can explore real-life scenarios, challenge assumptions, and develop practical skills that directly translate into everyday care practice.

By recreating a familiar home setting from the 1970s, the training environment encourages participants to consider how memories, surroundings, and personal history influence wellbeing, communication, and quality of life. This deeper understanding helps professionals deliver care that is not only clinically effective but also compassionate, dignified, and person centred.

Introduction

Nana's Hoose is Aberdeen's first immersive health and social care training environment, carefully recreated as a traditional 1970s living room. Designed to support health and social care professionals, the space provides a unique opportunity to step into an environment that reflects the lived experiences, memories, and realities of many older adults.

By moving beyond classroom-based learning, Nana's Hoose enables participants to develop a deeper understanding of ageing, dementia, communication, and person-centred care. Through realistic scenarios, reflection, and interactive training, professionals gain valuable insights that help them deliver more compassionate, effective, and relationship-focused support.
